The Problem

Most available aquatic care offerings are based on outdated, analog based, 1930’s era technologies that can only maintain a snapshot of static conditions felt to be best for the fish to live.  This allows most modern aquariums to maintain only that single set of conditions known to allow the fish to live – not necessarily for extended periods of time, not necessarily for multiple species, and not usually for mating.  Matching the home weather/environmental conditions for a fish species would require a human to constantly adjust conditions in an aquarium.  What about when multiple species are in a tank?

As a result, every year the tropical fish industry imports millions of tropical fish into the U.S. market in order to meet demand.  This is in addition to fish imported to very large European and Asian markets.  While this number represents a small portion of the fish population for any single year, repeated removal of these fish can damage the wild stocks and can potentially damage the ability of the populations to naturally renew themselves.

Our solution

CleverArium, LLC is an aquatics R&D products company.  We work with major aquatics research universities in the development of advanced 21st century technologies for their application in the world of aquatics in order to improve and better manage aquatic environmental conditions and reduce costs. Our artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and digital imagery (DI) “CleverArium” product suite can help aquarist lower the cost of fish keeping/management via precise replication of the diurnal environments fish require and have evolved, lived, and thrived in since the beginning of time. It has unique, Precision Breeding AI/ML tools for medical research, breeders, aquaculturist and hobbyist for Replication of Desired Results. All of this technology is available to help aquarist with a single fish tank or aquaculturist and researchers with many thousands of breeding tanks securely manage them from their mobile phone or laptop via local WiFi or internet connectivity. CleverArium’s integrated computer network, advanced software and hardware, databases and the internet make it possible to lower costs and precisely, and dynamically control conditions in one or thousands of aquariums.

Now, you can more confidently invest you time enjoying your hobby because our CleverArium Aquatic Care System  keeps your aquarium environment vibrant by simulating the triggers normally provided by weather, light, and water/chemical concentrations.  Plus, if you want to try your hand at breeding, the granularity of management that the CleverArium Aquatic Care  System offers can help you do so  and you’ll likely spend less time, effort and expense doing it AND you can even watch the results remotely!

In addition, CleverArium offers educational oppurtinities that demonstrate reliance of species and OM on their environment that shows the effects of commercialization of the environment on OM.

ECOLOGICALLY RESPONSIBLE

It’s estimated that more than 90% of ornamental marine fish and invertebrates, like coral, and between five and 10% of freshwater fish entering the ornamental fish trade are caught in the wild for aquarium keepers to enjoy in their homes.

This part of the industry, also, impacts the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It provides livelihoods to sustainable artisanal fisheries and thus avoids poverty, by providing income from exports and income to feed, clothe and provide education for families, and it can help to avoid climate change by maintaining pristine rainforests and the carbon
fixed in them.

Wild caught ornamental fish are most often caught in communities where opportunities to earn a living are limited. Buying one wild fish has a ripple effect – it not only supports  just the fisherman but also many other businesses along the supply chain within that country, as well as suppliers of nets, packaging for shipment and transportation to the U.S. or other countries:

There is a downside to all of this – attrition.

Each year, approximately 120M tropical fish are captured in order to be sold in a pet shop.  However, 50% of them don’t make it past the capture/transit to the airport process and 90% of those surviving fish don’t make it to the pet shop.  If you do the math, you’ll find that translates to about 6M fish survive the process or roughly 5% survival rate from point of capture to the pet shop.

CleverArium  supports 12 of the 17 UN 2030 goals.

We estimate that our impact could be as high as a 30% survival rate from the point of capture to the pet shop.  That translates into about 36M surviving fish!  Not to mention the positive impact it would have on the environment because fewer fish are required to meet demand and less time is spent burning fossil fuels, fewer plastic bags, rubber bands, boxes, knives, tools, pumps, etc. are needed to support the process!  AND the fishermen can make higher profits.
